International Day against Climate Change: reflection and action towards a sustainable future
This day highlights the urgent need to address global warming, caused by human activities such as deforestation and the use of fossil fuels. Lasenor supports this effort by making sustainability a key pillar of its strategy, focusing on renewable energy and reducing emissions to help protect the environment.
This significant date, October 24, serves to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of global warming and the critical need for action. It underscores the urgency of addressing a challenge that impacts the entire planet.
Climate change is mainly caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, leading to extreme events such as droughts, hurricanes and heat waves. This results in increased pressure to adopt sustainable policies at the global level.
In this context, Lasenor has made the fight against climate change and the preservation of the environment a key pillar of its corporate strategy. Through its sustainability policies, the company ensures that each stage of its production and operation chain minimizes its environmental impact, promoting the use of renewable energies and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, thus contributing to a more sustainable future.
Lasenor and its commitment to the environment
With a comprehensive approach to our environmental policy, we are implementing measures to mitigate the impact of our activities. Key areas of work include energy efficiency and clean energy generation. At the same time, we are taking action to reduce water consumption, an essential resource in our region, efficiently manage waste generated and promote the circular economy.
During the years 2022 and 2023, work has been carried out on the Sustainability Report, implementing concrete measures that reflect the commitment to these actions, where we highlight efforts in the:
Decarbonization: we have taken a clear approach to decarbonization, categorizing our emissions into three scopes under the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Scope 1 includes direct emissions generated by our operations; Scope 2 covers emissions from the energy we purchase; and Scope 3 refers to indirect emissions linked to the sourcing of our raw materials. We have reduced by 20% from 2022 to 2023 at our plant in Olesa de Montserrat and aim to reduce all emissions generated by our operations globally by 50% by 2035.
- Water management: in response to the need to save water and optimise the efficient use of this vital resource, we have implemented a water consumption monitoring system in our different plants. From 2022 to 2023 we have reduced water consumption at Olesa de Montserrat plant by 6.4%. In addition, by maintaining high standards of purification at our wastewater treatment plant, we have a firm objective to reduce water consumption by 20% by 2030 for the entire Lasenor Group.
Waste management: to minimise our environmental impact, we follow the principles of the circular economy. We are committed to giving a second life to the waste generated and to recycling those materials or products that allow it. This strategy ensures that we manage waste in a more sustainable way, reducing its ecological footprint and promoting a more efficient life cycle for the resources used.
With that, the targets for a significant reduction until 2030 will demand some actions:
Commitment to biodiversity and a future against climate change
International Day against Climate Change reminds us of the importance of acting in the face of the global challenges posed by global warming. Lasenor has made this commitment as part of its corporate strategy, integrating sustainability policies that seek to minimise its environmental impact in all areas of its operation. From the implementation of renewable energies to efficient waste and water management, the company is taking concrete steps towards a more sustainable future. However, there is a lot of work to be done to achieve the ambitious goals set for the coming years, so let’s continue to act, today and every day, to protect our planet.
